Having designed your site, it needs to be placed onto the world wide web so people can visit it. In order to do this, your site needs it own space on the web and its own address so that it can be easily found. This package is known as hosting and there are many companies around who can host your site and make it available for others to access. With so many companies offering such a variety of hosting packages, it can be difficult to distinguish exactly what it is you need.

Options and Costs

Firstly, most ISP's (Internet Service Providers) offer a small amount of web space absolutely free when you subscibe to their service. Whilst this may seem like and ideal solution, there are many drawbacks that need to be considered. The amount of web space available may too little for your needs or there may be serious restrictions on what you can host on their servers.

If you decide that free hosting does not meet your requirements, then you are petty much resigned to having to pay for your site to be hosted. What you pay should be governed by your needs and can vary greatly from as little as £50 per year through to upwards of a £1000. That is not a misprint, professional hosting on dedicated servers can cost well in excess of £100 per month. There is not the space here to go through all the options available, but it doesn't necessarily follow that the more you pay, the better the service you get.
