HTMLHTML is the basic language used to create web pages. It is simple, lean and easy to manipulate thus allowing the creation of visually pleasing but fast loading web sites. With the drive towards producing more dynamic web content, HTML is considered by many to be old fashioned and obsolete. Whilst it is true there are serious limitations to the technology, we believe that basic web sites not only can, but should be written using this type of coding. The main reason for this is that it keeps down the cost to the end user but it can also be fully integrated into more dynamic coding languages at a later date should the need arise. PHPPHP, or Hypertext Pre Processor to give it its full title, is a dynamic coding language that lets the designer break free from the restrictions of HTML and deliver content that can change depending on various outside influences, without the need to re-design or re-code a web page. A simple example of this at work can be found on the home page of Abstract Corporate Promotions Ltd web site that was designed by us. Each time the home page loads, a random generator selects which images will be displayed on the page. Once the page has loaded, click the refresh button on your browser to see some or all of the images change. PHP is quite often used in conjunction with a database and is the core behind our content management systems on web sites where our customers are able to add or modify the content of the web site themslves. MySQLMySQL is a system that allows data to be stored in a database and then retrieved by the end user by entering certain search criteria. All websites that utilise a MySQL database also use PHP code to enter, amend, delete and retrieve the contents of the database depending on which aspect you are approaching it from. The formulation of a website that uses a database to store information and content can be quite complex, so the cost of such web sites is going to be much higher than a static HTML website. CSSCascading Style Sheets is a technology that allows web designers a great amount of control over how a web page will look. It does not go to the extent of PHP, but it does let the designer break free from certain elements of HTML and also allows him or her the ability to quickly change certain visual aspects af a website.
